At Cannes' Marché du Film (13-21 May), Berlin-based sales agent m-appeal will be launching sales for an enticing new queer title, Drunken Noodles by Lucio Castro, just as the flick enjoys its world premiere in the festival’s ACID sidebar dedicated to independent works narrated from bold perspectives (see the news). Boasting a wide catalogue, m-appeal is known for its selection of acclaimed queer movies, including this year’s Golden Bear winner, Dreams (Sex Love) [+leggi anche:

Characterised as a sexy, queer story with surreal undertones, the film follows young art student Adnan as he has a series of intimate encounters, both artistic and erotic, over the course of two summers in New York City. While interning at an art gallery, he also meets an unconventional older artist, and moments from his past and present begin to intertwine.

Drunken Noodles is a US-Argentinian co-production and the third feature by Buenos Aires-born, New York-based director Castro. The production stars Laith Khalifeh, Ezriel Kornel, Matthew Risch and Joél Isaac. Castro has also written the film, while Barton Cortright served as the cinematographer.

Castro’s debut feature was End of the Century (which world-premiered at BAFICI and won the Award for Best Argentine Film, and also screened at New Directors/New Films in 2019), while he presented his sophomore work, After This Death, as a 2025 Berlinale Special Gala selection. The new film is being produced by Castro and Barton Cortright for their Alsina 427 banner, with co-producers Joanne Lee and Julia Bloch also on board.

As part of the rest of its sales line-up, m-appeal will also be selling three titles that premiered at the Berlinale: the aforementioned Dreams (Sex Love), the Chinese competition title Living the Land by Huo Meng and the queer Brazilian erotic thriller Night Stage by Filipe Matzembacher and Marcio Reolon, which screened in the Panorama strand.

In addition to touting the Danish love story In Ashes by Ludvig Christian Næsted Poulsen, the outfit continues its streak of Brazilian films with Bury Your Dead by Locarno Special Jury Prize winner Marco Dutra and Streets of Gloria by Felipe Sholl.
