The Gan Film Foundation, which has been supporting first and second feature films since 1987, has unveiled its list of selected movies for 2025.

Standing tall among them is 43, which will be Guillaume Renusson’s second feature film after White Paradise [+leggi anche:

The story was written by the director and revolves around 36-year-old Axelle who’s a major in the emergency police force. Suspended after several months of free falling, she’s admitted into a remote clinic for burnt out police officers. Feeling defensive, she observes the other clients from afar, each of them broken by the job in their own way. Axelle has no choice but to yield to the support groups, therapy and life in a community without really believing in it. When her roommate Fanny dies, the fragile balance in the clinic wavers. Officially speaking, it was suicide - the 43rd in the police force that year. But Axelle smells a rat. Guided by her instincts and ignoring her treatment plan, she launches her own secret investigation. Did someone want Fanny dead? What secrets are the people around her hiding? Produced by Frédéric Jouve on behalf of Les Films Velvet and by Pierre-Louis Garnon for Baxter Films, 43 will be distributed in French cinemas by Ad Vitam.

Chien noir, which will be Nyima Cartier’s first feature film, set to be toplined by Megan Northam (nominated for this year’s Best Newcomer César via Rabia [+leggi anche:

Written by the director herself (who turned heads with her short films, including L’homme silencieux which screened in Clermont-Ferrand’s National Competition in 2021), the story follows 29-year-old Claire who works in a start-up founded by two highly ambitious young men called Arthur and Benjamin. Just as they’re celebrating raising their first round of funding, Benjamin rapes Claire. The young woman falls apart, goes off radar and stays at home in shock… Until she encounters a mysterious dog: a new companion who gives her the strength to stand tall and face her attacker … Produced by Joséphine Mourlaque and Antoine Salomé on behalf of Mabel Films and by Marc-Antoine Robert and Xavier Rigault for 2.4.7. Films, Chien noir will begin filming in March and will be released in France via Condor Distribution.
