The plot centres on Estela Otero, a lawyer at the public defender's office in A Coruña, who must represent a troubled young man accused of murdering a prominent local businessman. The case appears straightforward: all evidence points to his guilt, and Estela expects to be able to focus her energy on navigating her own complicated personal life. During the proceedings, she comes up against Luis Rouco, a police officer who is also grappling with his own personal crisis — and who must do everything in his power to stop her from uncovering the truth.

Pepe Coira and Fran Araújo, the creators of this series, explain that "it is a crime drama through which we wanted to explore the space where many of our coexistence problems end up being resolved. The domain of solicitors, judges, law enforcement and the law. It is a universe full of codes, yet one where the human factor always prevails. Ardora examines how the law can become entangled with vested interests, abuses of power and prejudice. A lawyer who believes she can handle anything faces a police officer and a minor who believe in nothing. Ardora revolves around them and the Atlantic city of A Coruña.”

Susana Herreras, executive producer of the series at Movistar Plus+, adds that "returning to Galicia with the Coiras, Araújo and the entire Portocabo team, led by Alfonso Blanco “Fosco”, is a real privilege. Telling the story of contemporary A Coruña from the perspective of a public defender felt like a unique opportunity to talk about power, justice, and inequality. At Movistar Plus+, we believe in fiction that captivates and challenges viewers, allowing them to look their fears and contradictions straight in the eye.”

Alfonso Blanco, from Portocabo, concludes that, “The series aims to tell a crime drama from the perspective of a committed, strong, charismatic public defender — a central female character around whom the entire narrative revolves.  As is customary in Portocabo productions, the story is steeped in realism, with authentic, well-researched settings and characters, and judicial proceedings depicted in detail. Ardora is more urban than our latest productions for Movistar Plus+ (Hierro, Rapa). The story is deeply rooted in A Coruña, a northern Atlantic city with a strong personality, a setting of diverse landscapes and visually striking scenery.”

Ardora is an original Movistar Plus+ series produced in collaboration with Portocabo.
