When Rubén, an eleven‑year‑old boy, discovers that his father has mysteriously disappeared, he is forced to go and live with his grandmother, a woman he barely knows. In a rural environment where time seems to have stood still, the boy gradually learns from her how family wounds are passed down from generation to generation, and as he grows older, he struggles to try and heal them. This is the premise of The Bad Son, the debut feature from the multifaceted Jaime Lorente: actor, singer and writer (he published the poetry collection A propósito de tu boca in 2019). ), Hugo Arbués, Abel de la Fuente and Carlos Hernández lead the cast of this drama. Filmed between the Canary Islands and Madrid and now in the editing phase, the film is based on the novel by Salvador S Molina, itself inspired by real events.

Its director, who co-wrote the screenplay with the author of the novel, explains, "It all began when Salvador S. Molina found out that I was looking for a project for my first feature film. I was reading several scripts at the time, and he wanted to send me his novel. I loved it, and that's how everything started. The Bad Son explores the refusal to accept of an illness such as addiction, the impact of poorly managed masculinity, and how these issues can alter the very foundations of a family.” The 34-year-old filmmaker from Murcia adds, “One of the key elements of the film is its cinematography: aesthetics matter a great deal to me and to our cinematographer, Elías M Félix, which is why it has been fundamental to the film. The film contains everything of me.”

The Bad Son –which features a soundtrack by artist Niño de Elche– is produced by actor Manu Vega (recently seen in Fragmentos and Reversión, and soon to appear in Islas [+leggi anche:
