The series’ screenplay was penned by Manuel Gancedo and Eduardo Torallas, and it tells of how Emma Cruz (played by Susana Abaitua) is a determined lawyer in the midst of an existential crisis who becomes obsessed with an unsolved case: the disappearance of two girls some 20 years ago. What begins as professional curiosity soon spirals into a dangerous fixation, fuelled by her own trauma: the tragic death of her sister when they were kids, which she has always blamed herself for. In her determination to unearth unspeakable secrets, concealed behind the town’s stifling and claustrophobic facade, Emma will have to confront her most disturbing ghosts. Her tireless search will make her a target for those who are prepared to do whatever it takes to prevent the truth from coming to light.

“As soon as I read Ledicia Costas’ novel, I knew that there was something very special about this story,” remarks Eva Cebrián, a producer at Evafilms. “It’s a heart-stopping thriller, brimming with mystery and excitement, which explores the human conflicts behind the suspense and constantly keeps the viewer on edge.”

The shoot will be split between Madrid and the rural landscapes of Biscay, such as the Gorbeia Natural Park, the Urdaibai estuary and Biosphere Reserve, and the Flysch de Barrika, among others, as well as the towns of Orozko, Areatza and Trucios-Turtzioz, backdrops that will stand in for Ura, the fictitious town where the plot unfolds. Indeed, the location serves as a veritable extra character that is fundamental to the story.

Infamy is being produced by Eva Cebrián for the firm Evafilms; it boasts the involvement of EiTB and is due to premiere on HBO Max later this year.
