The Marché du Film of the Cannes Film Festival has unveiled the full selection for the third edition of its Cannes Remakes initiative, once again partnering with the French National Centre of Cinema and Moving Images (CNC) to promote the circulation of European intellectual property (IP) for new film adaptations.

Following its launch in 2024, Cannes Remakes continues to expand its scope, this year presenting its largest line-up to date with 14 projects sourced from France, Italy, Spain and, for the first time, Austria. The programme is supported by returning partners, including Italy’s Directorate General for Cinema and Audiovisual – Ministry of Culture (DGCA-MiC) and Cinecittà, plus Spain’s Film and Audiovisual Arts Institute (ICAA), while the Austrian Film Institute (ÖFI), in collaboration with Film and Music Austria (FAMA), is involved in the initiative for the first time. The scheme is also supported by Creative Europe – MEDIA.

The programme is designed to respond to the sustained growth of the global IP market, driven by increasing demand from international producers, buyers and streaming platforms seeking proven stories with strong adaptation potential. By showcasing successful European titles, Cannes Remakes aims to reduce development risks while encouraging cross-border collaborations and culturally diverse reinterpretations.

Among the selected titles are several films that have already demonstrated strong resonance in their domestic markets and on the international circuit. Paola Cortellesi’s There's Still Tomorrow, for instance, emerged as a major box-office phenomenon in Italy, becoming one of the country’s biggest recent hits while also travelling widely to festivals and securing international releases. Likewise, Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia’s The Platform gained global visibility following its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and its subsequent success on streaming platforms, quickly achieving cult status among genre audiences. Other titles such as Cesc Gay’s My Friend Eva and Riccardo Milani’s Life Is Life further reflect the programme’s focus on commercially proven and culturally specific stories, feeding into the initiative’s aim to offer high-potential IPs with both critical and audience appeal for international remakes.

The 2026 edition will take place on 18 May at the CNC Pavilion (Gray d’Albion), featuring a pitching session, a series of pre-arranged one-to-one meetings and a networking cocktail event. The gathering is open to Marché du Film badge holders, and targets international buyers, sales agents and producers interested in acquiring remake rights.
