In 2026, the Norwegian International Film Festival’s New Nordic Films is turning its attention to Western Europe, with a French Focus programme designed to deepen collaboration between France and the Nordic region. Running from 25-28 August in Haugesund, New Nordic Films – in partnership with the Institut français de Norvège, the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, the CNC and Unifrance – will host a series of panels, case studies and networking events dedicated to strengthening co-production ties.

Gyda Velvin Myklebust, head of New Nordic Films, commented: “We are so excited about our French Focus. Our aim is to lay the ground for professional collaborations and exchange between the French and Nordic film industries, and contribute to the mutual discovery of the amazing talents in our countries. We believe our focus will lead to awareness, co-productions and cultural exchanges in the years to come.”

The initiative will include a dedicated round-table exploring co-production opportunities, funding frameworks and creative partnerships between France and the Nordic countries. Through case studies and practical insights, the session aims to offer producers, financiers and creatives a clearer understanding of how to navigate the French system and maximise both the artistic and financial advantages of collaborating with France.

Alongside its industry activities, the Norwegian International Film Festival will also present a “French Touch” programme, showcasing films and talents from France and underlining the country’s continued influence on the international cinema landscape.

Established in 1995, New Nordic Films serves as a key meeting place for professionals working with Nordic feature films, combining a film market with an international co-production and finance platform. Each year, it brings together projects and industry players from across the region, with a growing emphasis on international collaboration.
