Iberseries & Platino Industria continues to flesh out the programme for its sixth edition, which will run from 29 September-2 October at Matadero Madrid, with an extensive agenda of conferences and professional meetings focusing on the transformations reshaping audiovisual production, financing, distribution and consumption. The names announced so far include Pedro Pina, vice-president of YouTube EMEA; Luis Fernández, chairman of NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises; José Antonio Antón, general manager of Atresmedia; as well as Javiera Balmaceda and Nicole Morganti, who oversee International Originals for Prime Video & Amazon MGM Studios across various territories.

Organised by EGEDA and Fundación Secuoya, in collaboration with FIPCA and with the support of Madrid Film Office and Film Madrid Region, the event thus aims to provide a snapshot of an industry shaped by the coexistence of traditional television and digital platforms, the search for new financing avenues, the strategic exploitation of intellectual property and increasingly fragmented viewing habits.

One of the key speakers will be Pedro Pina, vice-president of YouTube for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, who will deliver the keynote “YouTube: The Strategic Ally of the Audiovisual Ecosystem”. The executive will examine the evolution of the platform and its growing relationship with broadcasters, studios, distributors and production companies, with particular attention paid to audience creation and expansion, monetisation, intellectual-property exploitation and the international circulation of high-production-value content. Following his intervention, representatives of the traditional audiovisual industry and the digital sphere will discuss opportunities for collaboration aimed at developing new formats, reaching younger audiences and generating new revenue streams.

The transformation of Spanish-language audiovisual content will also be at the heart of a keynote by Luis Fernández, chairman of NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises. The executive will examine the company’s multiplatform strategy and its combination of live content, sport, fiction and new formats designed to attract younger audiences. His contribution will also draw on a professional career developed on both sides of the Atlantic, spanning RTVE and various Spanish media outlets as well as senior positions at Telemundo and Univision in the USA.

The need to adapt constantly to change will likewise underpin the keynote “Constant Transformation: The Secret of Atresmedia’s Success”, featuring José Antonio Antón. The group’s general manager will explain the hybrid model through which Atresmedia seeks to integrate, from the outset, the trajectory of its content across linear television and the atresplayer digital ecosystem. He will also discuss the importance of alliances with international partners such as Disney+, Netflix, ViX, ZDF and ITV in expanding the international circulation of Spanish productions.

The relationship between local identity and international reach will form the focus of “Amazon MGM Studios: Connection – Local stories with global impact”, a conversation featuring Javiera Balmaceda, Head of International Originals for Latin America, Canada and Australia, and Nicole Morganti, Head of International Originals for Italy and Southern Europe. The executives will share the studio’s strategy for identifying and developing stories born of specific markets but capable of connecting with international audiences, while also outlining some of Amazon MGM Studios’ strategic priorities looking ahead to 2027.

Intellectual property will play a particularly prominent role in another newly announced session, “The strategic triangle of literary adaptations: Intellectual Property, platforms and studios”. Fernando Benzo, from the Federation of Spanish Publishers’ Guilds; Mar Vila, from WEBTOON Productions; Vanessa Miranda, from HBO Max Latin America, and Pablo Culell, from Underground Producciones/Telemundo Studios, will examine how literary works with audiovisual potential are identified, which criteria determine their adaptation and what new models of collaboration are emerging between publishers, production companies, studios and platforms.

The evolution of formats will be another major topic at the event. “Vertical & Viral: The rise of microdrama” will look at the growth of fiction conceived for vertical viewing and very short running times, its narrative specificities and its monetisation models. Professionals linked to DramaBox, My Drama by Holywater Tech, SPi and Secuoya Content Group will take part at a time when this type of content is also beginning to attract the attention of traditional industry players.

At the same time, financing will continue to occupy a central place in the programme. The panel “Financial structuring: The new map of funds in Spain” will bring together Juan Antonio García Peredo (Elipsis Capital), Miguel Doria (Arcano Asset & Capital Finance) and Andrés Sánchez Pajares (Filmika Audiovisual) to examine combinations of private capital, specialised funds and tax incentives. This will be complemented by the session “How can cash flow be secured in the new content economy?”, featuring Elisa Alvares (Tower Peak Partners LLP), Serge Hayat (Cinémage) and Phil Hunt (Head Gear), which will focus on the growing importance of financial discipline and return on investment in determining the viability of productions.

The exploitation of catalogues and established brands will also be debated in “The empire of nostalgia: Was the past really better?”. Daniel Pérez, from AMC Global Media Iberia and Latin America; Alexander Marín, from RCN Televisión, and David Urgell Pérez, from BBC Studios, will explore the renewed value of franchises, reruns, thematic channels and reboots as tools for extending the commercial life of intellectual properties and connecting them with new generations.

The agenda will also make room for market intelligence. Gloria Saló, from GECA, will present “Co-production: Building bridges between Ibero-America and Europe”, addressing the evolution of international alliances and the potential of the Spain-Portugal axis as a gateway to other European markets. Ingke Purrmann, co-founder and Chief Revenue Officer of JustWatch, will discuss the use of data on viewing intentions to inform marketing strategies, while Jaime Otero, vice-president of Partnerships at Parrot Analytics, will examine which content, genres and markets show the greatest potential for circulation between Spain, Latin America and the USA Hispanic market.

Finally, the Platino Educa Meetings and the Nebrija CIMUED Chair will present research into women’s participation in the Colombian audiovisual industry, carried out by Nebrija University, Universidad del Norte and Universidad de La Sabana. The study will serve as a starting point for a discussion of the obstacles that continue to hinder balanced female representation across the different professional areas of the sector.

With this programme, Iberseries & Platino Industria aims to bring together in one place some of the debates set to shape the immediate evolution of the audiovisual business – from the race to capture the attention of new audiences to financing and monetisation, alongside international co-production, the adaptation of pre-existing intellectual properties and the search for local stories capable of travelling globally.
