The South International Series Festival has unveiled the programme and new features of its fourth edition, which will take place in Cádiz from 30 October-4 November, bringing together more than 30 titles, discussions and industry activities.

Among the highlights of its Official Fiction Section is Someone Should Ban Sunday Afternoons, a French series created, written and directed by Isabel Coixet. It follows an aspiring filmmaker who arrives in Paris on a scholarship and discovers a city very different from the one she had imagined. Liv Henneguier, Clara Bretheau and Théo Christine topline the cast. Meanwhile, in the psychological thriller Infamy, directed by Agustina Macri and Beatriz Sanchís, Susana Abaitua plays a lawyer who becomes obsessed with the disappearance of two girls 20 years earlier (see the news).

Other notable titles include the Spanish-Chilean series Patagonia, directed by Rodrigo Susarte and starring Itziar Ituño (see the news); and Denmark’s Snake Killer, created, written and directed by Anders Olholm, which delves into Copenhagen’s anti-drugs unit (see the news). Also featured are the British comedy Stepping Up, written by and starring Josh Pugh and directed by Jack Clough; Still Breathing, directed by Eirik Svensson, which takes viewers inside a Norwegian hospital; and Blindspot Berlin, about the investigation preceding the 2016 attack on a Berlin Christmas market, directed by David Nawrath, and starring Albrecht Schuch, Bayan Layla and Tamer Trasoglu. The second season of El centro, a Movistar Plus original produced in collaboration with Fonte Films, will join the Out-of-competition Fiction Section. It stars Juan Diego Botto, was created by David Moreno and is directed by David Ulloa.

Meanwhile, the Official Non-fiction Section will premiere several titles. Power, money and the secrets of the art market are the fuel for The Oligarch and the Art Dealer, directed by Andreas Dalsgaard and co-created with Christoph Jorg (see the interview). Trade Secret: The Polar Bear Market by Abraham Joffe follows a mission to put an end to the international trade in polar bears. The life of James Bond’s creator is the focus of Ian Fleming and the Curse of James Bond, directed by Adam Low, which draws connections between the 007 novels and Fleming’s biography through archive footage and contributions from figures such as Ralph Fiennes and Helena Bonham Carter. The section will also feature Tuenti, a Dollhouse Studio production with the participation of Movistar Plus and RTVE, telling the story of how an entire generation uploaded photographs of its adolescence to Tuenti without knowing that it was creating a shared emotional archive.

The section will also include Los años sucios, ¿dónde está ‘El Nani’?, from Mediaset España, written and directed by Susana López Raña, which examines the police corruption scandal involving its central figure while portraying Spain in the 1980s; and Mágico, which revisits the life of Jorge Alberto González, the legendary Salvadoran footballer who left an indelible mark on his fans. Finally, Ricardi. El culpable perfecto, directed by Nacho Goldaracena, will screen out of competition, exploring the consequences of a miscarriage of justice and the difficulty of rebuilding a life.
