Reggiani’s L’estate di mio fratello to be released theatrically

by

SelfCinema did it: Pietro Reggiani’s feature film L'estate di mio fratello (lit. “The Summer of My Brother”) will be released in Italy’s main cities.

The credit goes to spectators who through the cultural association “adopted” the film by pre-buying tickets, thus guaranteeing exhibitors box office earnings for the title’s first week of release. Judging by the results, the formula seems to be a winner.

Pre-release tickets were available online through www.selfcinema.it (and still are for other films the association has chosen to back) and through numerous bookshops, bars and cafes supporting the initiative promoted via numerous events that took place throughout the country.

Produced by Nuvola Film, L’estate di mio fratello has received a number of international awards, including a Special Mention at the Tribeca Film Festival (the international festival of independent film founded and co-directed by Robert De Niro) and Montreal’s Festival du Monde.

The film – starring Pietro Contempo, Maria Paiato and child actors Davide Veronese and Tommaso Ferro – tells the story of an only child and his tragicomic reaction to the news that he will soon have a little brother.

Unfortunately, Reggiani’s film is just one of many that never make it to screens, penalised by the local distribution system. SelfCinema’s objective is to promote two or three features each season (selected by a group of experts who agreed to support the association from the onset) in order to allow directors to make their films known to wide audiences.
