- New Cinema fund gives theatre’s John Crowley Euros 876,000 to direct Intermission starring Colin Farrell, Colm Meaney, Ciliam Murphy and co-produced by Neil Jordan

The Film Council's New Cinema Fund announced on September 30, that it had invested £550,000 (Euros 876.214 in Intermission, the feature debut by stage director John Crowley.
His most recent play, On an average day starring American actors Woody Harrelsom and Kyle Maclachlan, is currently running in London’s West End. Filming on Intermission began on location in Dublin, Ireland, on 31 August and is scheduled to last 7 weeks. The film stars Colin Farrell (Minority Report), Colm Meaney (The Van), Cilian Murphy (Disco Pigs), Kelly Macdonald (Gosford Park) and Shirley Henderson (Harry Potter). Intermission is co-funded by the Irish Film Board, produced by Neil Jordan and Stephen Woolley’s Company of Wolves with Alan Moloney’s Parallel Films.
Buena Vista UK will release the film in the UK and Ireland in 2003 with IFC ( currently distributing the American hit movie, My Big Fat Greek Wedding) handling the United States.
The Film Council also awarded £75,000 (Euros119.483) to Don Letts’ and Rick Elgood’s romantic Jamaican comedy entitled One Love. Recent successful films co-funded by by the New Cinema Fund include Peter Mullan’s Venice 59 Golden Lion winner, The Magdalene Sisters.
