Empties fills contracts for Fandango-Portobello

Jan Sverák’s local box office hit Empties [+see also:

has sold to a handful of territories during Cannes, according to new players in town Fandango-Portobello.

The film, which is breaking local box office records in the Czech Republic with over a $5m grossed since March 6, has been snapped by Lumière (Benelux), Filmswelike (Canada), Audiovisual (Greece), Fandango (Italy) and Dendy (Australia).

The bittersweet comedy about an old man facing up to his mortality and finding the meaning to life in retirement was produced by Sverák’s long-standing partner Eric Abraham, managing director of Portobello Pictures.
