TorinoFilmLab gives out production and development awards
"Turin is a festival that not only shows films, but also helps make them,” said Nanni Moretti, director of the film festival currently underway in the city, at the ceremony for the eight Production Awards and six Development Awards at the end of the first TorinoFilmLab Meeting Event, held from November 23-24.
The jury had €600,000 for the Production Awards, to be distributed to projects on the basis of their stage of development and budgets. They have awarded Michelangelo Frammartino’s The Four Times €150,000; €200,000 to Red Cross by Hugo Vieira Da Silva; and €50,000 for the development of Bertrand Mandico’s The Man Who Hides the Forest. Paz Fabrega’s Agua fria de mar won €120,000 while Aditya Assarat received €80,000 for High Society.
The six Development Awards – chosen from among the 15 projects developed in the advanced screenwriting course Script&Pitch Workshops/Training Programme 2008 – will allow the winning filmmakers to continue working on their projects during the upcoming year as part of the TorinoFilmLab’s Development Programme.
The selected projects are: Greengrass (UK) by Nicola Mills, screenwriter-director (producer: Gavin Humphries, Quark Films); Inside (France) by Laurent de Bartillat, screenwriter-director (prod: Geoffroy Grison, Shilo Films); Still Life (Poland) by Marta Parlatore, screenwriter-director (looking for a producer); Fetch (Netherlands/Ireland) by Finbar Wilbrink, screenwriter-director (prod: Erik Schut, Rocketta Film); The Ark (Netherlands) by Eva Keuris, (prod: Herman Slagter, White Bull Film); and The Incredible Odyssey of Daniel Flow (Italy) by Leonardo Stagliano, screenwriter (looking for producer and director).
Screenwriter-director Petr Vaclav received a special mention for Resurrections (France/Czechoslovakia), for which he is looking for a producer.
