- The director of Verónica is putting his faith in Luis Tosar as the lead in this thriller, a French-Spanish co-production that boasts support from the MEDIA programme
The success of his previous work, the horror film Verónica [+see also:

The movie, which sees a Galician star in the lead role, in the guise of Luis Tosar (To Steal from a Thief [+see also:

film profile]), is a suspense film with added hints of revenge, which can boast Spanish and French funding in addition to support from the MEDIA programme. The cast is rounded off by Xan Cejudo, María Vázquez, Ismael Martínez and Enric Auquer. For this shoot, Plaza, one of the two fathers of the REC [+see also:

The screenplay, written by Juan Galiñanes and Jorge Guerricaechevarría (The Warning [+see also:

film profile]), portrays the life of Mario, a model man who lives in a town by the coast. Life is treating him well on both a family and a professional level: he is about to have a child with his wife, and everyone thinks highly of him in the retirement home where he works as a nurse. When Antonio Padín, the area’s most notorious drug baron, turns up there after his recent release from prison, Mario goes out of his way to make him feel at home. Avoiding his children, Kike and Toño, who are running the family business, Padín will increasingly place his trust in his nurse and come to appreciate him. But a ruse by one of his partners and his debt with a Colombian dealer land Kike in jail, and Toño turns to the nurse to try to convince his father to assume said debt. However, Mario has his own plans...
According to Emma Lustres, a producer from Vaca Films, “The movie has a strong dramatic impact and broaches topics such as betrayal, family ties, the world of drugs and violence. One of the most noteworthy features of the plot is that the motives and the objective of the protagonist will make the viewer feel very uncomfortable. Eye For An Eye explores the dark side of the human being and perfectly illustrates the concept of ‘an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth’. Likewise, it highlights the importance of the setting: the area around Arousa, which is the main focus for drug trafficking in Galicia. We start from a local story, a microcosm, and then arrive at a universal story, narrated in a very personal and realistic way.”
Eye For An Eye is a Vaca Films, Atresmedia Cine and Quien a hierro mata AIE production, in co-production with Playtime Production (France); it enjoys the involvement of Atresmedia and Movistar+, and boasts support from Agadic and the MEDIA programme. The Spanish distribution will be handled by Sony Pictures Entertainment Iberia, while the international sales will be managed by Film Constellation.
