03/11/2020 - The filmmaker's first feature, starring Ákos Orosz and Mari Nagy, will be presented at Connecting Cottbus's Work in Progress. A production by Filmfabriq and FP Films sold by the NFI World Sales

Shot last Summer, from 22 July to 14 August in Maglód, in the near suburb of Budapest, Eviction (Kilakoltatás), the first feature from Máté Fazekas, will participate in cocoWIP, the Work in Progress organised as part of Connecting Cottbus (which will take place online 4-6 November).

film profile]). Also in the cast are Blanka Mészáros, Annamária Láng, István Znamenák, Kata Péter, András Pál, Géza Egger, Orsolya Török-Illyés, Bori Péterfy, Gergely Váradi and Zsolt Trill.

Written by Fazekas, the script of this black comedy centres on the conflict between an ambitious judicial officer (Orosz) and an old woman in debt (Nagy) who is protecting her home. The story takes place in only one location, in front of the woman’s house, over one day, from the morning to the late afternoon. Due to the old lady’s strong resistance, more and more authorities have to get involved, creating an absurd chaos that is at the heart of the film and frames the narrative arc of the main character. Throughout that day, we will discover a judicial officer who seems efficient and professional, but who in reality is nothing but a young boy trying to show the world how tough he can be. However, by witnessing the drama of the old lady and her eviction, he will realise that he can no longer be an obedient little soldier for the system.

Produced by Gábor Osváth for Filmfabriq and by Péter Fülöp for FP Films, Eviction was co-produced by Judit Romwalter for Sparks. Supported by the incubator programme of the National Film Institute, the feature will be distributed in Hungarian cinemas in the second semester of 2021. International sales are handled by NFI World Sales.
