The CEE Animation Forum (CEEA Forum) has revealed the projects selected for its tenth edition, set to run from 2-4 November as a hybrid event in Pilsen, Czech Republic. Forty-nine projects of all formats, including feature films, series/TV specials, shorts and student films, will be presented at the CEEA Forum, and 33 of these are in the competition. They come from a range of fresh filmmakers and students as well as from established auteurs. The countries with the largest presence are France (seven), Hungary, the Czech Republic, Poland (five each), Germany (four), Slovakia (three) and Slovenia (two), while one project is coming from each of Austria, Bulgaria, Italy, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Romania and Serbia.

There is a high number of female directors, with a ratio of 24:15, which is particularly noticeable in the short-film category. From an animation technique standpoint, the authors have chosen or combined drawing (16), 2D (16), stop motion (11), 3D (six), cut-out (four) and, exceptionally, collage, pixelation and rotoscoping.

The CEEA Forum is a leading regional pitching, financing and co-production event that aims to bring together authors, producers and decision makers from the industry. “We are honoured that experienced producers such as Sébastien Onomo (Special Touch Studios, France), József Fülöp (SALTO Films, Hungary), Robert Jaszczurowski (GS Animation, Poland) and Ron Dyens (Sacrebleu Productions, France) regularly return to our event, looking for partners for their ambitious projects,” says Marta Jallageas, managing director of CEEA Forum. Another important part of the programme is a chat with representatives of national television channels and the accompanying discussion panel.

CEE Animation Forum also serves as a gateway to the professional world for young film professionals. European universities clearly see the sense and added value of the event for their students, regularly sending their representatives and showcasing the talent pool of current young animators.

Accredited guests will be able to familiarise themselves with a selection of non-competing projects – the selection of the CEE Animation Workshop 2022 and animated works from partner events such as AnimatekaPRO, Animarkt, Animest, Kids Kino Industry, plus one student project from the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art – University of West Bohemia in Pilsen.

The event will take place in hybrid form, and accredited guests may participate in the programme either in person in Pilsen or online. The organisers have joined forces with another industry event, the Animarkt Stop Motion Forum (which takes place from 5-8 November) and are offering an advantageously priced joint accreditation for both events, which can be accessed here. “Working together gives a great opportunity to reach many more people working in the animation industry, and allows us to share our experience and integrate the animation industries. We are convinced that this is just the beginning of our cooperation,” says Agnieszka Kowalewska-Skowron, from MOMAKIN, who is also the head of the Animarkt Stop Motion Forum.
