is the directorial debut and graduation project by German filmmaker Sarah Miro Fischer. Shooting took place in and around Berlin over a period of 28 days, between the end of August and early October 2023. The project is in its closing stages of post-production and will be finished by the end of the year. The drama flick is being presented as a work in progress during the WIP Europa programme of the San Sebastián International Film Festival. Its team is currently looking for national and international partners for distribution.

The film is the young director's graduation project from the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (DFFB), where she has been studying since 2018. Fischer has also studied film at Bogotá’s National Conservatory for Cinema, Colombia, and has already made a series of shorts that have played at several international festivals; her latest, Spit, received a Special Mention at the New York Imagine This Women's International Film Festival in 2022.

Fischer penned the script for The Good Sister together with Danish co-writer Agnes Maagaard. In her story, she explores the bond between a sister and her older brother. “I am fascinated by sibling stories because they provide space for basic questions like: what unites us? What separates us?” says Fischer. The siblings in question, Rose and Sam, are loving and close to each other – until Sam is accused of having raped a woman after a party. While at first, Rose stands by her brother, she eventually finds out that the accusations are true and she has to find a way to deal with this difficult situation. The film offers an intimate portrayal of Rose’s conflict between her love for her brother and her own values. Fischer says, “As long as we label abusers as monsters, it will be impossible for us to recognise them in our midst – as friends, colleagues or siblings. The closer the person, the more challenging it is to see clearly.”

At Fischer's side is a production team comprising Janna Fodor and Nina Bayer-Seel, graduates of the DFFB in Berlin and the Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf, respectively. Alongside them, acting as the German co-producer, is Berlin-based production company arkanum pictures. Rounding off the young and experienced female team are cinematographer Selma von Polheim Gravesen and editor Elena Weihe. Marie Bloching and Anton Weil (Krzyk – Losing Control [+leggi anche:

) are the lead actors in the film.

The Good Sister is part of the Leuchtstoff funding programme, which particularly supports the work of up-and-coming filmmakers; it also boasts backing from Berlin-based channel RBB and funding body Medienboard Berlin Brandenburg, while in its formative stage, it received financing from Young Talent Foundation Berlin. The project's main producer is the DFFB. Its release is planned for early 2025.
