The industry awards of this year’s CPH:DOX were revealed at a ceremony on Thursday evening, held at the Kunsthal Charlottenborg festival hub.
Two CPH:LAB projects emerged as the biggest winners. The French VR360 + XR installation Becoming Lucien by Lucien Pin and Alex Haugmard won the Eurimages Outreach Award of €30,000 and the Newimages – Forum Des Images Award, which takes it to the 2025 XR Development Market of the NewImages Festival.
The Danish-Italian-Hungarian interactive digital museum A Sanctuary of Stuff by Francesca Tremulo and Eszter Várhidi received the Eurimages Innovation Award of €20,000 and the Sunny Side of the Doc Award, meaning it will be presented as a case study at the 36th edition of the French gathering.
For the very first time, CPH:FORUM has given out the Sandbox Films Science Pitch Prize, highlighting an outstanding science documentary project for its innovation in the genre, artistic merit and commitment to inclusivity. The $25,000 cash award, along with support from Sandbox Films, went to the Indian-US co-production Metropolis, directed by Anupama Srinivasan and Anirban Dutta.
Another newly established award at CPH:FORUM is the Al Jazeera Documentary Channel Co-Production Award, worth €10,000, aimed at a project highlighting urgent matters of our times and bringing depth to the co-production side of CPH:INDUSTRY. It was handed to US director Maiken Baird’s Untitled Edward Said Documentary.
Syrian filmmaker Rama Abdi’s House No. 7 received the Rise and Shine Award, of €3,000, for the best pitch project with international potential and no sales agent attached, while the Unifrance/Titrafilm Doc Award, totalling nearly €5,500 in benefits for the best French production or co-production, went to Rami Jarboui’s Salt of the South (Tunisia/France), produced by Ramzi Laâmouri and Julien Coquet.
The Millennium Docs Against Gravity Award for a project from the CHANGE strand, taking it to the Polish event’s pitching session, was given to the Ukrainian film Missing in Action by Marharyta Melnychuk and Kateryna Holovko.
Finally, the Onassis ONX Studio Award, consisting of ten hours of online mentorship over the course of a year, as well as access to the studio in New York and Athens, went to Elena Lyubarskaya and David Steiner’s The Place Beyond (France/Germany).
