After the announcements of its Gala and Special Presentations (see the news), its competitive Platform section (see the news), Discovery (see the news), Centrepiece (see the news), Wavelengths (see the news), Primetime (see the news), Midnight Madness (see the news) and TIFF Docs (see the news), the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) is topping off its selection with one final batch of titles.

Among the new additions, there is one that hasn’t shown up at any of the major film festivals so far: the new work by Polish directorial duo Małgorzata Szumowska and Michał Englert, The Idiot(s). Coming off of two visits to the Venice Film Festival with their previous titles, Never Gonna Snow Again and Woman of..., the duo now portrays Fiodor Dostoyevsky and Anna Dostoevskaya’s honeymoon and the early years of their marriage, a period when the famous novel The Idiots was conceived. It stars Johnny Flynn, Aimee Lou Wood and Vicky Krieps (see the news).

Other major players from this autumn festival season have been added to the roster, such as the new titles by masters Werner Herzog (Bucking Fastard) and Nanni Moretti (It Will Happen Tonight), both world-premiering at Venice, alongside those by Martin McDonagh (Wild Horse Nine) and Stéphane Brizé (A Good Little Soldier), also bowing on the Lido. The festival will also host the world premiere of the new movie by Iranian filmmaker Bahman Ghobadi (winner of the Cannes Caméra d’Or back in 2000 for A Time for Drunken Horses and of San Sebastián’s Golden Shell in 2004 for Turtles Can Fly and in 2006 for Half Moon): Trees are Watching.

The festival will take place from 10-20 September.
