(last year in competition in Venice) with Vincent Paronnaud, Marjane Satrapi has directed her third feature on her own. Las Jotas is currently in post-production. Urban Distribution International will start sales on the film at the Film Market at the 65th Cannes Film Festival (from May 16 to 27).

Marjane Satrapi wrote the screenplay for Las Jotas and also takes on the main role in the film, alongside Mattias Ripa, Stéphane Roche, Ali Mafakhreri, Cristian Pirjol, and Maria de Medeiros. It’s a road movie that has been described as "psycho-messianic-New Age" and is a a sort of tribute to the American Z movies of the 1950s and 1960s. Somewhere between a comedy and a wannabe thriller, the film was shot as a joke among friends and produced by Taj Films (a company headed by the director, her Swedish husband Mattias Ripa, and François-Xavier Decraene).

At the Film Market in Cannes, Urban Distribution International will also sell Belgium-France-Luxemburg co-production Mobile Home by François Pirot (read more), a film that will probably pop up at one of the great summer festivals, as well as American feature Gimme The Loot by Adam Leon, that Thierry Frémaux may very well add to the 2012 Cannes Official Selection this week.

Urban Distribution International, headed by Frédéric Corvez, also has three notable documentaries in its line-up: The Lebanese Rocket Society by Khalil Joreige and Joanna Hajithomas (co-produced by French production company Mille et Une Production), Swiss-French film Viramundo by Pierre-Yves BorgeaudSadhu (provisional title) by Gaël Métroz.
