Written by the director with Antoine Pinson, the screenplay tells of the surprising, burlesque romance of two separated parents, who meet thanks to their two daughters, members of the same club of majorettes. A provincial world that Pascal Rabaté will approach in the fanciful and mischievous style so typical of his previous films.

Produced by Xavier Delmas for Loin derrière l’Oural (which has handled all the director's feature films), Du goudron et des plumes benefits from co-production with the German company Belle Epoque Films and pre-purchases by Canal + and Ciné+. It will be filmed from April 15th to June 1st in the Midi-Pyrénées and Centre regions. Distribution in French cinemas will be handled by Ad Vitam and international sales by Films Boutique of Germany.
