Operation nostalgia: the Vanzina brothers return to Versilia with Sapore di te

by

- Thirty years after Sapore di mare, Enrico and Carlo Vanzina have just started filming their latest project, featuring a large cast and set in the 1980s

The beach and the sea are still the same thirty years on. Filming for Enrico and Carlo Vanzina’s latest film, Sapore di te, started yesterday, June 4, and will take place on the same beach as cult film Sapore di mare (1983 - photo), in Forte dei Marmi, Versilia. Written by both brothers, and directed by Carlo, the film is presented as an entertaining sentimental romance on friendship, love, success and fate, with a wide cast including Vincenzo Salemme, Maurizio Mattioli, Nancy Brilli, Serena Autieri, Giorgio Pasotti, Martina Stella, Katy Saunders, Eugenio Franceschini, Matteo Leoni, Virginie Marsan and Valentina Sperlì.

The story unfolds over the course of two summers (1984 and 1985). Luca and Chicco (Franceschini and Leoni) are two university friends who fall in love with the same girl. Anna (Stella) is about to graduate and meets Armando (Pasotti), a provincial Steve McQueen who steals her heart. Then there’s the Proietti family, with Alberto (Mattioli) a Rome football team fanatic, his wife Elena (Brilli) and their 17-year-old daughter Sabrina (Saunders), who is the object of Luca and Chicco’s affection. Honourable De Marco (Salemme), a nice Neapolitan socialist is bowled over by a sentimental and naïve Susy (Autieri), who is a young showgirl.

A mosaic of characters typical of the times revolve around them: the lifeguard who seduces young foreign girls, the beach boys and girls who are full of jokes and romantic escapades, and their parents who talk about the 1960s with longing.

Sapore di te will be filmed between Forte dei Marmi, Porto Ercole, Rome, Fregene, San Candido and la Val Pusteria, with a stint in Austria. Filming will take place over seven weeks. The film is to be produced by Medusa Film and International Video 80 and will be distributed in the first few months of 2014 by Medusa Film.
