The fourth edition of the Czech Film Critic Awards sealed the already expected outcome. The film critics were choosing from 26 features and animated films and 16 documentaries. The nimbus of the best Czech film was going along with Burning Bush [+see also:

throughout the year 2013. Burning Bush was nominated in every category expect that for best documentary film. The story of an infamous act of self-martyrdom won six awards from ten nominations including the award for the Best Czech Film.

Burning Bush also scooped awards for Best Direction (Agnieszka Holland - read the interview), Best Cinematography (Martin Štrba), Best Screenplay (Štěpán Hulík), Best Music (Antoni-Komasa Lazarkiewicz), Best Supporting Actress (Jaroslava Pokorná) and also the award for the Discovery of the Year (handed to Štěpán Hulík, the author of the screenplay). Jiří Schmitzer and Petra Špalková won awards for Best Actor and Actress respectively for their performance in the film Like Never Before [+see also:

directed by Zdeněk Tyc. Jiří Lábus gained the award for Best Supporting Actor in the film Clowns (directed by Viktor Tauš) about the revival of a troupe of three clowns who used to perform during normalization. The Best Documentary Award was won by Show! (directed by the young and talented Bohdan Bláhovec), a documentary peeking into the backstage of young pop group 5Angels (the girls were between 11 and 14 years old during the shooting) and their endeavour to rise to fame led by their resolute manager and father of one of the singers in the group.

The Czech Film Critic Awards foregoes the Czech Lion Awards helmed by The Czech Film and Television Academy. Burning Bush already dominated the Czech Lion Awards’ nominations achieving 14 (out of 16). Among other nominees we also find films like Revival [+see also:

(directed by Alice Nellis), Like Never Before, Clowns and Pleasure (directed by Jitka Rudolfová). The winners will be announced during the ceremony on February 22.
