Nineteen films for an enthralling Un Certain Regard

Wim Wenders, Pascale Ferran, Lisandro Alonso, Jessica Hausner, Mathieu Amalric, Jaime Rosales, Ruben Ostlund, Panos Koutras, Ned Benson, Wang Chao and Rolf de Heer, not to mention Asia Argento and the directorial feature debut by Ryan Gosling: an impressive number of names burst forth from the list of filmmakers selected for the Un Certain Regard programme, an integral part of the Official Selection of the 67th Cannes International Film Festival (14-25 May 2014). The list includes a total of 19 feature films and looks particularly attractive on paper, wonderfully doing its traditional job of counter-programming for the competition (read the article).

Un Certain Regard, which aims to explore the entire global cinema panorama, will also be opening its doors to four Asian films (China, with Wang Chao; South Korea, with July Jung; India, with Kanu Behl; and Israel, with Karen Eyada), a South American feature (directed by Argentinian filmmaker Lisandro Alonso and starring the charismatic Viggo Mortensen) and two North American features (by Ned Benson and Ryan Gosling).
