Written by the director together with Frédérique Moreau, the story is set in Casteljaloux, a small village in Lot-et-Garonne, France, where men are top of the pile, the kings of the world: friendship, violence, saying whatever they want, getting drunk… The path of 17-year-old Romain, who is in love with Pascaline and is training to be an actor, crosses that of Jeannot, a 44-year-old man who has just been released from prison and has one only thing on his mind: getting back the woman he has always loved, who is now shacked up with the butcher…

Produced by Mathieu Bompoint for Mezzanine Films, Les Rois du monde is benefitting from backing from the Aquitaine region, the Lot-et-Garonne department (where the entire shoot will take place from 28 July to 29 August) and Movies Angels, among other sources. Distribution in French theatres will be handled by Jour2Fête.
