– which had not had a release in Spain delighted the 10,000-plus viewers who dropped in at the Film Library of Catalonia and the other venues of this festival, a truly unmissable event for any insatiable film buff. The three awards it gives out ended up in the hands of Argentinean and Spanish films.

The Talents Award (worth €6,000), intended for directors with no more than three features to their name, was bestowed upon Juana a los 12, the feature debut by Argentinean filmmaker Martín Shanly, aged 27. According to the jury, the title earned the prize because of the “subtle wealth of nuances with which it addresses the grey area of puberty, inserted into a humanly hostile context”.

Another movie from the same country, El incendio by Juan Schnitman (Buenos Aires, born in 1980), went home with the Critics’ Award: the film – the second work by its director – was screened at the latest Berlinale and at the recent Málaga Spanish Film Festival, in the Horizontes Latinos section.

In addition, four new directors – Alba Cros, Marta Verheyen, Laila Alabart and Laura Rius – received the Audience Award after festival attendees voted for Les amigues de l’Àgata [+see also:

, a movie sponsored by Isaki Lacuesta, Elías León Siminiani and critic Gonzalo de Lucas.

A total of 35 filmmakers (ranging from Ángel Santos – read the interview – to Sergi Pérez – read the interview – and Juan Rodrigáñez) dropped by at the gathering directed by Carlos R Ríos, which was brought to a close at the weekend by Mia Hansen-Love’s Eden [+see also:

Likewise, the first conferences on marketing strategies for independent film were also held, where particular attention was paid to the need for all components of the film chain (producer, exhibitor, sales agent and so on) to join forces in order to tackle the challenges that the industry is already starting to face.
