Cornillac, Attal and Seigner star in Dans la Tourmente

The ten-week shoot starts tomorrow in Marseille on Christophe Ruggia’s third feature: Dans la Tourmente (“In the Turmoil”). After The Kid from Chaaba (presented in the Berlinale Panorama 1998 and nominated for the Best Debut Film Cesar 1999) and The Devils (2002, selected and accoladed at numerous international festivals), the director is turning his hand to a film noir starring highly popular actress Mathilde Seigner (Camping 2 [+see also:

Scripted by the director, the film centres on three childhood friends: Franck and Hélène, who are married with two young children, and Max, who is alone but not by choice. Franck works as a welder and, like the thousands of workers at his factory, he lives in fear of a predicted restructuring.

Meanwhile, Max doesn’t care about anything since he was made redundant two years ago and lost everything: his wife, his son, his home and his friends, except for Franck and Hélène.

One Friday at the factory, Franck overhears a conversation which devastates him. All the production machines are to be dismantled on the quiet and relocated by lorry before the weekend is over, with €2m in cash being discreetly transferred as part of the deal.

Franck broods over his anger and rage. He is torn between whether to rob the money or warn his colleagues about what is being plotted. He decides to talk to Max about it.

Produced by Bertrand Faivre for Le Bureau, Dans la Tourmente has received co-production support from France 3 Cinéma, pre-acquisitions from Canal + and Ciné Cinéma, funding from the PACA region and backing from Sofica Cofimages.

After two weeks in Marseille, shooting will continue in Paris. Wild Bunch will manage French distribution and international sales.

Another production by Le Bureau will be released in theatres on December 1 by Haut et Court: Fabienne Berthaud’s highly-accomplished film Lily Sometimes [+see also:
