Isabel Coixet is a director and business woman. Born forty years ago in Barcelona, Coixet began her career in 1985 in the advertising field when a company she co-founded produced some 400 ads. In 2000 Coixet founded Miss Wasabi Films, and produced videoclips and documentaries. through their El Deseo slate, in partnership with Canada’s Milestone. Sarah Polley, the star of Mi vida sin mi, and one of Atom Egoyan’s favourite actresses, is also Canadian. She plays a young mother who works nights as a cleaner at Vancouver University because her husband is unemployed. Her miserable life changes completely after a medical check up, the consequences of which make her suddenly realise the importance of life. “Only Sarah could have played this character in my film,” the director confides. “She knew exactly what to do: playing this young woman who discovers the value of life just on the eve of her death. Sarah simply “disappeared” into this character.”
