- Spanish director celebrated for his short films makes his feature debut with La flaqueza del bolchevique

On 18 November Manuel Martin Cuenca began directing his first feature film. Cuenca began his career in films as assistant to important directors like Jesus Delgado and Iciar Bollain and won critical and popular acclaim with a number of short films he directed, and especially a documentary entitled El juego de Cuba (winner of an award at the Malaga film festival in 2001).
Cuenca’s first feature, La flaquenza del bolchevique (The Weakness of the Bolshevic) , is based on the novel by Lorenzo Silva, and is being made on location in Madrid. It is the story of a businessman in his thirties who gets into trouble with the police and with his insurance company after a young woman writes off his car. He wants revenge and although he starts out with the intention to hurt the young woman, he ends up falling in love of her fifteen-year-old sister.
The film stars Luis Tosar adn Maria Valverde and is produced by Rioja Audiovisual. Canal+ and Antena 3 have already bought up the TV rights and UIP will distribute the film theatrically in Spain.
