, has been selected for the 64th edition of the Locarno Film Festival. It will be part of the prestigious Concorso Internazionale, the main competition in which films vie for the festival’s top prize, the Golden Leopard.

The film tells the story of Ewa, a Polish au pair (Dagmara Bak) who thinks she might know the identity of the serial rapist who has been active in the small town in the Netherlands where she works. The screenplay was written by Jolein Laarman, who earlier co-wrote Mijke de Jong’s features Stages and Katia’s Sister [+see also:

The cast also includes Rifka Lodeizen, Guy Clemens, Reinout Bussemaker and Polish actress Natalia Rybicka.

Van Geffen wrote the screenplay for the popular 2005 comedy Schnitzel Paradise, which was directed by Martin Koolhoven and based on a novel by Khalid Boudou. His adapation of Boudou’s The President was filmed by Erik de Bruyn and will be released on September 15.

As a director, van Geffen has made several short films, include My Sister, which premiered in Cannes and was a Golden Palm contender in 2007.

Van Geffen plans to make a trilogy about “the tragedy of the happy family”, entitled Vinex, after the housing projects created by the Dutch state since the mid-1990s.

Among Us was produced by Lemming Film in collaboration with the Buddhist Broadcast Organization. The Netherlands Film Fund supported the project financially. Cinéart Netherlands B.V. will release the film locally in November. Paris-based Elle Driver handles international sales.

The Locarno Film Festivals runs August 3-13.
