Les Arcs: an increasingly attractive Coproduction Village

A week after the announcement of its very rich programme (read the article), the European Film Festival of Les Arcs (5th edition from December 14 to 21, 2013) unveiled the list of 29 projects selected for the Coproduction Village. Increasingly popular amongst professionals of the cinematographic industry of the Old Continent, the event (December 14-17) was blessed with choice with 250 candidates, a figure clearly higher than that of last year. As the festival’s General Director Pierre-Emmanuel Fleurantin explained to Cineuropa, "it’s a very homogenous selection, without doubt the best since we began. We favoured the projects’ artistic quality and the previous paths of the directors; then we evaluated their potential compared to the market, because they not only have to attract coproducers, but also distributors and international sellers. Thanks to the experience acquired from previous editions, we selected a good mixture of experienced producers and rising companies in Europe.”

Amongst the projects (see the complete list below) some projects stand out: the next films by Romanian director Radu Jude (appreciated at the Berlinale 2012 with Everybody in Our Family [+see also:

Amongst other French projects, we find Le Front du Wakhan by Clément Cogitore, which just received a promise for an advance on receipts from the CNC (news) and Le véritable sosie de Ceausescu by Philippe Pollet-Villard (Oscar 2008 for Best Short).

Ten films (see the list below) whose scenes will be unveiled on Sunday, December 15, were selected as part of the Work-in-Progress section, which Cineuropa will cover in detail soon with Frédéric Boyer, the Festival’s artistic director.

It is also worth mentioning that on that same day, an enticing conference dedicated toThe evolution of funding: private equity, foreign investments and linguistic strategy for European films” will take placewith Danish producer Peter Aalbeck Jensen (General Director of Zentropa), his Spanish counterpart Alvaro Longoria (Morena Films) and American producer Anna Kokourina (Vice-president of production for Fox International).
