British sales outfit Altitude Film Sales has sold writer/director Julius Avery’s debut feature Son of a Gun to several European territories and beyond. Starring Ewan McGregor (The Impossible [+see also:

), the film is a heist thriller, centred on a complex relationship between Australia’s public enemy number one and his young protégé.

European sales include: Benelux – Dutch Filmworks; France – TF1; Greece & Cyprus – Seven/Spentzos; Portugal – Pris; Spain – Flins & Piniculas; and the UK – Koch Media. In Eastern Europe: Romania & Hungary – Prorom; CIS – All Media; Poland – Kino Swiat; and Yugosphere territories – Cinemania (Discovery). Svensk will distribute across Scandinavia and Iceland.   

California Filmes has South and Central America, and Gulf Film the Middle East. Asian deals include: Japan – Kadokawa; Indonesia – PT Prima; South Korea – Korea Screen; and Thailand – Mono Group. Previously completed deals include Hopscotch Entertainment One for Australian and New Zealand rights, Penny Black Media for airlines and Ascot Elite for German-speaking Europe. At Cannes, UTA Independent Film Group closed deals with A24 for the US and Mongrel Media for Canada.

The film is produced by Timothy White through Southern Light Films (New Zealand), with Janelle Landers of WBMC (Australia) co-producing, and Aaron L Gilbert of Media House Capital (Canada) serving as executive producer, along with John Collee, Bryce Menzies, Michael Spiccia, James Dean, Richard East and Aidan O’Bryan. Media House Capital financed with production investment from Screen Australia, Daydream Productions (New Zealand), and Australia’s Deluxe Australia, Kojo, Screen NSW and ScreenWest.
