Written by Édouard Bergeon and Emmanuel Courcol (nominated for 2010’s Best Screenplay César), the story follows in the wake of Carole whose world falls down around her when she finds herself fighting the ultimate battle: namely, saving the life of her son Martin, who has witnessed the abuses committed by powerful palm oil companies in Borneo and who has been wrongfully sentenced to death following a rigged trial.

La promesse verte is produced by Christophe Rossignon and Philip Boëffard on behalf of Nord-Ouest Films, in co-production with France 2 Cinéma and Belgium’s Artémis Productions. Pre-purchased by OCS, Disney+ and France Télévisions, the feature film also enjoys support from the Pays-de-la-Loire region. Filming in France took place between 6 and 17 February (in Paris and Sables d’Olonne), continuing in Thailand between 23 March and 22 April. Distribution in France is entrusted to Diaphana and international sales fall to Playtime.

For the record, Nord-Ouest Films will soon be unveiling Le règne animal [+see also:
