ficha de la película] (2016) is the only Italian title competing in the festival’s prestigious, autonomous and parallel section this year. The movie stars Rosa Palasciano, who previously turned heads in Giulia (which won her nominations for David di Donatello and Nastri d’Argento awards), and Ukrainian actress Yeva Sai, who’ll be playing a lead role in the fourth and fifth seasons of the hit series The Sea Beyond.

Actress Rosa Palasciano is also responsible for writing the screenplay, together with De Caro himself. Taxi Monamour is a film which celebrates the female world, following the ups and downs of two protagonists grappling with significant personal and social challenges. The story revolves around Anna (Palasciano) and Nadyia (Sai), two seemingly different women who are actually incredibly similar. Anna is in conflict with herself and her family, and she’s battling illness alone; Nadyia is fleeing a war which keeps her far from home. Everyone advises Anna to accompany her partner on a work trip and Nadyia to stay in Italy where she’s safe. When they meet, albeit briefly, they’re plunged into a sea of freedom.

“It’s the story of a casual yet intense encounter”, De Caro explains in his director’s notes, “and I’m trying to be a silent and subtle witness who observes the lives of these two women and captures something intimate and incredibly real in a light-hearted, raw and non-judgemental way, albeit from a highly personal angle”.

The film’s cast is rounded off by De Caro’s fetish actor Valerio Di Benedetto, alongside Ivan Castiglione (recently seen in the series Il re), Matteo Quinzi, Taras Synyshyn, Halyna Havryliv and Laurentina Guidotti. Photography comes courtesy of Manuele Mandolesi, editing is by Jacopo Reale, and set design and costumes by Valentina Di Geronimo.

Taxi Monamour is produced by Simone Isola and Giuseppe Lepore on behalf of Kimerafilm, in association with Michael Fantauzzi on behalf of MFF, in collaboration with RAI Cinema and Adler Entertainment, and with the support of the Italian Ministry of Culture. The film will be distributed in Italian cinemas by Adler Entertainment.
