Having kicked off on 20 July, the shoot for De l’autre côté de l’été (lit. "On the Other Side of Summer"), the feature debut by Julie Gourdain (widely acclaimed for her short Un grand silence, which most notably won the Unifrance Grand Prix in 2016), is under way in Dijon, where it will conclude on 28 August.
Starring are Agnès Jaoui (winner of the 1998 César Award for Best Supporting Actress and a nominee for it multiple times, nominated for the Lumière Award for Best Actress for This Life of Mine, recently praised for her latest directorial outing, Crescendo), Louis Peres (a breakout in Honey Cigar, acclaimed in the series Sentinelles and soon to hit screens, notably in A Man's Skin and Les Misérables), Éric Caravaca (César Award for Most Promising Actor in 2000 and a nominee for the 2002 César for Best Actor, on fine form this year in Mrs.) and Maud Wyler (The Bare Necessity, Alice and the Mayor, The Path of Excellence).
Adapted by the director and Stéphane Ly-Cuong (Winter in Sokcho, In the Nguyen Kitchen) from Audrey Diwan’s novel of the same name, the screenplay centres on Muriel, a 60-year-old woman who gives all her savings to a young man in order to spend a year with him. From this unexpected relationship comes a personal upheaval: that of a woman who gradually reclaims her body, her time and her sexuality, and who finally allows herself to exist just the way she is…
De l’autre côté de l’été is being produced by Fabrice Préel-Cléach for Offshore and co-produced by Belgian company Stenola Productions. The feature, which has been pre-purchased by Ciné+ OCS, France Télévisions, RTBF and Proximus, also boasts support from the CNC’s advance on receipts, the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region, the Wallonia-Brussels Federation and the Cofimage Sofica. The shoot will run until 28 August in Dijon, with Nathalie Durand (nominated for the César Award in her field for Custody) as director of photography. International sales are being handled by Paradise City Sales and French theatrical distribution by KMBO.
As a reminder, Offshore has Il registro by Italy's Marco Amenta (see the article – starring Reda Kateb and Galatéa Bellugi) in post-production.
