A delegation from the European Parliament will once again be paying a visit to the Croisette to demonstrate its support for the European cultural sector, taking part in different gatherings and activities with members of the film industry. On Saturday 20 May, as part of the Marché du Film during the 76th Cannes Film Festival (16-27 May), the LUX Audience Award and the European Parliament's Committee on Culture and Education will host a seminar entitled “Let’s Talk Democracy: A European Union Perspective on the Cultural and Creative Sectors”, where Members of the European Parliament and industry guests will discuss the different policies and initiatives that have been implemented by the institution to back and foster the creative sector in Europe.

Vice-president of the European Parliament Evelyn Regner will be responsible for delivering the opening speech at the conference, which will also feature important announcements on the calendar of the LUX Audience Award, the pan-European film award presented by the European Parliament and the European Film Academy, in collaboration with the European Commission and Europa Cinemas. Moderated by Pauline Durand-Vialle, CEO of FERA – Federation of European Screen Directors, the seminar will welcome Laurence Farreng, Member of the European Parliament's CULT Committee, and Romanian producer Ada Solomon, deputy chair of the European Film Academy, as its main speakers. The moderator will then open the floor to attending professionals, aiming to spark insightful conversations focused on promoting cultural diversity and freedom of expression, while identifying and discussing the current challenges for the sector. The panel, accessible for any badge holder upon registration, will attempt to pave the way for developing new strategies and structures for supporting the creative and cultural industries while highlighting their crucial transformative effect on democracy and society, fostering public debate at a decisive moment, with the European elections coming up in a year’s time.

Due to the overwhelming response from the public during the voting period, which kicked off at the European Film Awards last December, the European Parliament has recently announced that the winner of the 2023 LUX Audience Award will be unveiled on 27 June in the European Parliament's hemicycle in Brussels as a standalone ceremony. In addition, the awards ceremony will welcome both Members of the European Parliament and the general public, reflecting the joint effort undertaken by both groups in selecting the winning film.
