The 30th edition of New Nordic Films is set to unspool from 20-23 August as part of the Norwegian International Film Festival in Haugesund. The prominent industry market has revealed its Work in Progress line-up. On Wednesday 21 August, during the 19th Nordic Co-Production Market, a curated selection of 22 projects will be presented to accredited industry professionals, seeking funding, co-production partnerships, sales representation and other opportunities.
Highlighted projects include Also a Life, a slice-of-life exploration by Norway’s Anders Emblem (A Human Position [+leggi anche:

Ukrainian film director Ruslan Batytskyi's The Blindsight is set in postwar Ukraine, where coach Ihor grapples with AI controversy and personal turmoil as he guides his blind goalball team to the Paralympics and reconnects with his son after a risky surgery. Seasoned Swedish filmmaker Suzanne Osten presents Love Duet, a story set in the 1960s about 17-year-old Suzanne’s struggle to make films in a patriarchal industry dominated by Ingmar Bergman.
From Denmark, Christian Andersen (Unsinkable) offers his sophomore feature, Polaris, inspired by his father's Greenland journeys and set in the 1990s Arctic Ocean, where prawn fisherman Bastian faces a choice between dangerous sea adventures and preserving his family life. Finnish writer-director Selma Vilhunen (Stupid Young Heart [+leggi anche:

Among the selected projects, nine are by Nordic debut directors. From Norway, these include Aslak Dambolt's drama Benedikte & Theo, Mats Bjerknes' social realist hooligan drama Forza Oslo, and Fredrik S Hana's horror sci-fi Planet. From Sweden, Katia Winter’s dramedy A Week in Paradise, Gustav Johansson's romantic dramedy Burn Oslo Burn, Sunil Munshi's feel-good drama-comedy Himalaya My Heart, and Daniel Sawka's romantic dramedy Two People Who Fall In Love. From Finland, Naima Mohamud presents the heartwarming family film Halima, while Suvi West and Anssi Kömi offer the romantic adventure-drama Mátjárhká.
Additionally, as previously announced (see the news), New Nordic Films will continue to emphasise co-productions with the UK at this edition, much like it did last year, in order to enhance collaboration opportunities. This time around, four UK-produced projects will be featured: Zu Quirke's horror film The Fell, Anna Fredrikke Bjerke's thriller Let It Come Down, Ashley Horner's horror music mockumentary Nothing Holy and Corinna Faith's horror flick Unspeakable.
