The Cannes Film Festival, running from 12-23 May, has unveiled the line-up for its Un Certain Regard section (see the news), with Everytime, the latest feature by Sandra Wollner, among the selected titles.

Described as a psychological drama, the movie follows a tragedy that brings a mother, daughter and teenage boy together. Struggling with blame and forgiveness, the unlikely trio take a trip to Tenerife for a family holiday – a replacement for the one that never happened. Under the glow of the sun, past and present quietly start to overlap.

The cast is led by Austrian actress Birgit Minichmayr (The Blood Countess, 3 Days in Quiberon) as Ella, alongside German actor Tristán López (Schlamassel) as Lux, Lotte Shirin Keiling (Two to One) as Melli and Carla Hüttermann as Jessie.

Wollner directs from her own script, and Everytime marks her third feature. It comes six years after her sophomore effort, The Trouble with Being Born, which premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival, where it won the Special Jury Award in the Encounters section and four Austrian Film Awards, including Best Feature Film. Her debut feature, The Impossible Picture, earned a number of awards, among which the German Film Critics’ Award.

The film was shot in Berlin, Vienna and Tenerife from August to October 2024, with cinematography by British DoP Gregory Oke, known for his work on Aftersun. Editing is by Hannes Bruun, while production design is handled by Julia Libiseller and Gerald Freimuth. Costume design is by Hanna Rode, with make-up by Virginie Thomann and Rosa Singhofen. The score was composed by David Schweighart, with sound recorded by Johannes Schmelzer-Ziringer and sound design by Dominik Leube. Production management is overseen by Steven Swirko.

Everytime is being produced Viktoria Stolpe and Wollner for Germany’s The Barricades, alongside Lixi Frank and David Bohun for Vienna-based Panama Film. The project was supported by Eurimages, the Austrian Film Institute, Filmfonds Wien, the German Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM), Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and the German Federal Film Fund, with participation from broadcasters ORF and ZDF. French international sales agent Charades will handle the worldwide sales.
