Vicari’s country, from theatres to the Web
In 1959, Dutch director Joris Ivens, one of the greatest documentary filmmakers of the 20th century, shot Italy is Not a Poor Country, a film commissioned by the president of state gas and oil company ENI, Enrico Mattei, but censured by RAI because it depicted the contradictions of a nation enjoying a full economic boom but with a southern region that was being left behind.
Visiting the same places of Ivens’ historic work, but in reverse, Daniele Vicari – who won a debut feature award at the Venice Film Festival several years ago for Maximum Velocity [+see also:

Il mio paese will be released on April 20 by alternative distributor Vivo Film, on 10 film prints and many others in Digital Betacam, through an agreement with UCCA (Union of ARCI Film Centres), which has committed to distributing it in as many cities as possible through the summer.
Vicari is also thinking to create a website (www.ilmiopaese.it), to which anyone will be able to submit digital material on their own job, territory and personal experiences. "This will be the starting point for a new documentary, Il mio paese 2.0, which will be a collective work that I will only edit", he said.
