23/04/2026 - James Gray joins the competition; Konstantina Kotzamani, Judith Godrèche and Laetitia Masson are in Un Certain Regard; Christophe Honoré, Tiago Guedes and Maria Martinez Bayona now in Cannes Première

As expected, the Official Selection of the 79th Cannes Film Festival (12-23 May) has been rounded off by 16 additional features. The films in contention for the Palme d'Or (see the article) now number 22 (five of which have been directed by women). Indeed, a new face in the competition is the USA’s James Gray (his fifth time taking part in the competition) with Paper Tiger.

The Cannes Première programme has been enriched by the addition of Orange-Flavoured Wedding by France’s Christophe Honoré, Think Good by his fellow countrywoman Géraldine Nakache, Aqui by Portugal’s Tiago Guedes, Mary Magdalene by Haiti’s Gessica Généus and The End of It by Spaniard Maria Martinez Bayona (a feature debut produced by the UK, Spain and Norway – starring Rebecca Hall, Gael Garcia Bernal and Noomi Rapace).

Four movies have been added to the 15 titles previously announced for the Un Certain Regard selection (see the news): Titanic Ocean by Greece’s Konstantina Kotzamani (the feature-length directorial debut by the screenwriter of Arcadia), A Girl’s Story by France’s Judith Godrèche, Ulysse by her fellow countrywoman Laetitia Masson (which will bring the programme to a close) and Victorian Psycho by the USA’s Zachary Wigon.

The animated film Lucy Lost by France’s Olivier Clert will get a Family Screening, while five flicks flesh out the Special Screenings: Madame by France’s Hélène Rosselet-Ruiz, Spring by Lithuania’s Rostislav Kirpičenko, Ashes by Mexican helmer Diego Luna, the animated feature debut Tangles by the USA’s Leah Nelson, and the documentary Groundswell by US directors Joshua and Rebecca Tickell.

On its side, the Directors' Fortnight added a new title to its selection, Bruno Dumont's Red Rocks (see the article).
