Délice Paloma shoots in Alger

by

The first week of filming of the third feature by French-Algerian filmmaker Nadir Mokneche, Délice Paloma (lit. "Paloma Delight"), has just finished in Alger. The film, produced by Sunday Morning, stars Biyouna, Aylin Prandi, Daniel Lundh and Nadia Kaci.

The director, who started making features in 2000 with Harem of Madame Osmane (starring Carmen Maura), went on to garner 200,000 admissions in France with Viva Algeria in 2004, a remarkable performance for a film released on only 61 screens. Délice Paloma marks the third time the director is working with famous Algerian singer-actress Biyouna and Nadia Kaci.

A detective comedy, Délice Paloma recounts the misadventures of Madame Aldjéria, a 50 year-old policewoman who likes to sort out other people’s problems with money, sometimes plays detective and is not afraid to get her hands dirty to survive in a country where anything goes. But when new arrival Paloma joins the force things takes a turn for the worse. Hostile to the love affair between her son Ryad and Paloma, Madame Aldjéria decides to venture into a risky affair that will bring about her own downfall.

Like Viva Algeria, Délice Paloma is also being produced by Bertrand Gore and Nathalie Mesuret for Sunday Morning Productions. The film received an advance on receipts from the Centre National de la Cinématographie (CNC) as well as co-production funding and a pre-sales agreement from Arte France Cinéma.

Shooting, which began in the El Harrach prison, is set to last ten weeks. Les Films du Losange will handle international sales and are expected to release the film in French theatres in the second half of 2007.
