Tykwer goes international

film profile], 42 year-old German director Tom Tykwer has confirmed his presence on the international scene with his latest feature and first Hollywood production, eloquently entitled The International.
Currently in production at Potsdam’s Babelsberg Studios, the opening scenes of the thriller produced by Sony, Columbia Pictures in collaboration with X-Filme Creative Pool were shot in Istanbul.
The cast – a mixed bunch reflective of the film’s title – includes Australia’s Naomi Watts, British Oscar nominee Clive Owen, local star Armin Mueller-Stahl, Denmark’s Ulrich Thomsen and Italy’s Loris Loddi.
Scripted by Eric Singer, the film follows an Interpol agent’s (Owen) attempts to expose a high-profile financial institution's role in an international arms dealing ring.
The domestic release is slated for September 11, 2008.
