, which are completely different to the aforementioned two films and aimed more at children and young people.

Their success was a foregone conclusion, albeit less so in the case of Spanish Movie. However, the comedy had the full backing of Telecinco (and its powerful promotional machine), which is synonymous with success.

Javier Ruiz Caldera’s debut feature amassed €2.15m during its first weekend on release, a figure expected to rise to almost €4m during the bank holiday.

Meanwhile, Jorge Blanco, Javier Abad and Marcos Martínez’s animated mega-production Planet 51 is well-placed to become the Christmas box office number one, having grossed almost €7m in only two weeks.

This season has brought sweet success to Spanish film, which achieved a 47.6% market share this week, thanks also to Cell 211 (in seventh position - see review) and The Dancer and the Thief [+see also:
