28 July will see Non ti muovere directed by and starring Italy’s Sergio Castellitto go into production. This European co-production is very much a family affair since the film is based on the eponymous novel by Castellitto’s actress-and-writer wife, Margaret Mazzantini. The cast also features Iberian superstar, Penelope Cruz, Claudia Gerini, Elena Perino and Marco Giallini.

Following a serious road accident, a girl is admitted to hospital in a coma. The hospital where her father, Timoteo, a famous surgeon, works. In the hope of waking his daughter from her deep sleep, Timoteo starts telling her his life story, his loves, dreams and disappointments. He also reveals a painful secret that he has kept hidden for many years. “The story is about the emotional potential of women,” said Castellitto at the initial press conference. “Paradoxically, men are usually failures, despite being apparent social protagonists.”
Castellitto described his meeting with Cruz as “overwhelming for the enthusiasm and humility with which she boarded this project.” It was Cruz who asked for a part in this film. “I fell in love with the book and cried from page one. I absolutely had to play Italia, a woman scarred by life, and one who has both everything and nothing”. In preparation for this part Cruz spent several months learning Italian and will act in the Italian language.
