Government to support export of Swiss films
Although they are selected, and often win, at major international film festivals (see news), Swiss films still remain largely unseen beyond their national borders.
To remedy this, the Cinema Section of the Swiss Federal Office for Culture (OFC) has created a €182,000 fund aimed at stimulating the export of domestic productions.
The selective funding is not open to films whose theatrical release has received MEDIA Programme support.
Applications are examined by the federal promotional agency Swiss Films and the Exhibition and Diversity sub-committee of the OFC. The latter has announced the introduction of a grant of between €9,000 and €24,000, which would be paid directly to the foreign distributor.
