The Anima Festival, dedicated to animated film in all its guises, will kick off on 9 February in Brussels, and will present the new movie by Nick Park (and the legendary Aardman Animations), Early Man [+lee también:

, as well as the recent medium-length film by France’s Michel Ocelot, Ivan Tsarevitch and the Changing Princess – two sparkling jewels in the crown of European youngster-orientated animated film.

Anima is a monument to the richness of animated film aimed not only at young audiences, but also adults. For instance, the line-up includes Un homme est mort by Olivier Cossu (France), an exceptional project that aims to rekindle the memory of filmmaker René Vautier and, above all, that of his long-lost work of the same name. Audiences will also be able to discover Tehran Taboo [+lee también:

by Ali Soozandeh (Germany/Austria), which paints several moving portraits of a prostitute and her young son, a musician, a young wife and a couple of teenagers, and which simultaneously denounces the hypocrisy of Iranian society.

, the latest outing by Irish studio Cartoon Saloon, which tells the story of an 11-year-old girl who must dress up as a boy to save her family, who live in a Kabul laid waste by the Taliban. The film was helmed by Nora Twomey, who previously co-directed The Secret of Kells [+lee también:

Anima will also give pride of place to Belgian animation, including through a focus on the works of Picha (Shame of the Jungle, The Missing Link), the premiere of Des cowboys et des indiens, Fabrice du Welz’s documentary devoted to cult duo Vincent Patar and Stéphane Aubier, the brains behind A Town Called Panic [+lee también:

, and a screening of the Flemish kids’ film ZOOks by Dimitri and Kristoff Leue.
