synopsis
Sicily 1782. The rise and fall of Vella, a simple Francescan monk who gains notoriety by falsifying the Arab codexes. Vella is imprisoned while outside the Republican and libertarian battles of Lawyer Di Blasi are taking place. The lawyer is arrested and executed.
