Penned by Chiche, the film centres on 60-year-old Conrad Lang (Depardieu), who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease. While he is losing his short-term memory, he rediscovers increasingly distant recollections which take him back to his early childhood.

This involuntary exploration of the inmost depths of his memory threatens to uncover a family secret of which he turns out to have been the first victim.

Small World is produced by Nicolas Duval Adassovsky and Yann Zenou for Quad Films. Its €6.5m budget includes co-production support from Studio 37 and German company Blue Print Films, a pre-sale from Orange Cinema Series and €400,000 in backing through the Franco-German co-production mini-treaty funded by the FFA and the National Film and Moving Image Centre (CNC).

Shooting is scheduled to last eight weeks, until April 21, in the Paris area and Abbeville. Rezo will handle French theatrical distribution and Kinology is managing international sales.

Quad Films will launch its production Heartbreaker by Pascal Chaumeil (see news) in theatres on March 17 and is currently wrapping up shooting on Alexandre Coffre’s Sur Des Rails (“On Tracks”, see news).
