(see news), has not yet been released, the Spanish director is already about to start another film project.

After the political intrigues of the Italian Renaissance’s most renowned family, Hernández will return to his favourite genre, to shoot a thriller entitled El menor de los males (lit. "The Lesser of Evils") from August 7 in A Coruña.

After a long casting session aimed at discovering a "Galician Lolita", Hernández decided to give the leading part in his new film to Madrid-born newcomer Verónica Echegui, who has just finished shooting Bigas Lunas' new feature Yo soy la Juani.

The 22-year old Echegui will star alongside Roberto Álvarez and Carmen Maura – with whom Hernandez had already worked on 1999’s Lisboa – in a film that combines suspense, a dark comedy style and socio-political critique. The script, whose main plot has yet to be revealed, was written by Hernández and his son, Antonio Galeano.

Produced by David Martínez Vásquez for the A Coruña-based company Voz Audiovisual S.A. and shot entirely in Galicia, El menor de los males represents another contribution in the development of the regional film industry, which was given a boost by Alejandro’s Amenábar's Oscar-winning The Sea Inside [+see also:

The film is expected to be ready by the end of year, just in time to be submitted to the 2007 Berlinale.
