Written by Giusti, the story focuses on Luca Morandi (Melki), a 35-year old Italian writer who is lacking inspiration, success and love and has reached adulthood without really becoming an adult, still fantasising about his wonderful childhood in Italy. When he returns to Turin after the unexpected death of his father, a plastic surgeon, Luca finds himself confronted with the memories of a man he wrongly idolised.

Along with his sister Isabella (Casar) he attends a funeral that borders on the nightmarish, with countless widows, mistresses, brothers and sisters in attendance and the discovery of immense debt. In a story set against the backdrop of a "Berlusconised" Italy, the protagonist is confronted with the unexpected rediscovery of the imaginary country of his childhood, which forces him to redefine his identity and his dual culture.

Produced by Marie Masmonteil and Denis Carot for Elzévir, Made in Italy is a Rhône-Alpes Cinéma co-production and is being backed by pre-sales and a co-production from France 3 Cinéma.

Pyramide will handle French distribution and world sales.

Elzévir’s slate also includes Olivier Panchot’s Sans moi (see news, release October 10 through Haut et Court) and the outfit is preparing Djamshed Usmonov’s upcoming film, as well as two documentaries. The first is by Yann Arthus-Bertrand on the environment (a EuropaCorp co-production) while the second, by Belgian director Patric Jean, is on masculine domination.
